Are You Making This Common Party Mistake?
I'm just going to be honest with you, I see the same mistakes again and again and I feel it is my duty, as a children's entertainer, to prevent you from making them so that you can have the easiest and less stressful time when party planning!
What is this party mistake?
Parents booking the venue before the entertainer!
It might not seem like a big deal, in fact, it sounds like most parents are super organised by doing this!
BUT it is a mistake doing it this way round.
Because there are hundreds of halls all over Essex and Havering, but only a few good entertainers, including myself, and the good ones get booked up really quick!
If you book your venue first, you are missing out on having the very best in the business, and you are left with mediocre entertainers at cheap prices that won't reflect the type of party you can have!
Case Study Number One
It's easy for me to say this, of course I want you to book me, but for the right reasons!
I had an enquiry yesterday for a birthday in two months time, but the parents had booked their venue first. The times are set in stone and unfortunately for them, I am already booked for the time they require. But I truly believe I am the best fit for the type of party they are after.
They can't change the time of the party so they are now struggling to find someone else who fits in with their needs.
If they had booked me first, then I would have given them a time slot that I am available and then they can call as many venues as they like with that time slot to book somewhere, problem solved!
Case Study Number Two
A super awesome customer who saw me at a party a few months ago called me today to see if I am available on her chosen date, I have a time slot for her and off she has gone to book the venue whilst I have pencilled her in until she finds one that fits in with us.
This has made it stress free for both of us and once the venue has been found, it's a win win situation for all of us!
How do I stop making this mistake?
The moment you want to start planning your child's next party, find your entertainer first. You may already have someone in mind, if so, get in touch with them today to get them booked in!
I personally take a booking fee of £50 to secure your time slot and date (and comes off the end of your total fee) no matter how in advance you book me. That way you can have peace of mind knowing your party is already half way planned!
I have a blog post to help you plan in advance as well, especially around seasonal birthday's as entertainers get booked up even quicker around these times, click here to read it and claim your freebie!
I hope this has helped you in your party planning, just remember, the best parties are the most organised ones!
As a children's entertainer, you may think I just turn up to parties, perform, and go home, but think again! I have something that I believe will benefit you and your children and with September being full of back to school photos and new starts, I felt this would be the perfect time to show you what to do with all those beautiful memories.
Back to School and Memory Keeping
I am sure you can relate when I say my social media news feeds were full of school photos by proud parents, me included with both my boys starting new schools last week!
But what do you do with those photos after?
Most get stored on our phones until we run out of storage, some get printed off and some get deleted. Whatever you do with your memories and photos, we all have our own ways of preserving them.
I want to show you what I do with mine, and if you are inspired, I would love to see your version!
Project Life - What, Why and How?
Becky HIggins owns Project Life, a scrapbooking and memory keeping business that offers products to help make life easier for those of us who have no time to actually scrapbook! I have used these products for the last 3 years and recently became an affiliate because I knew I could help parents like you to keep your children's memories in one place.
It has been proven by my own children that they enjoy looking back on their own memories through photos with their whole life history in one place.
Now, I am not here to sell to you but I want to inspire you!
My eldest son has all his school photos, school work and memories in one scrapbook from his 7 years at primary school.
I am about to begin his secondary school journey and my youngest son's journey into primary school.
Project Life has an app, and website where you can create your own scrapbook pages and the app is where I do most of mine because it's on the go!
I can be scrapbooking on the school run, in the car, even on the plane!
This also applies to your children's birthday party memories too!
As an entertainer, I encourage lots of photos at parties and now there is an easier way of keeping these photos in gorgeous scrapbooks with colourful pages and no need to cut, stick or fiddle with!
I am a huge believer in preserving my children's memories and with so much access to camera phones, and photo collages, it is now more than ever, easy to do.
Then once your scrapbooks are complete, you can spend a whole afternoon with your children talking about your pictures and reminiscing together.
You can read more about Project Life on their website.

I would love to hear more about how you keep your memories.

As part of my Frequently Asked Questions, I hope to help you make the most of your party planning by taking the stress away and making it easy for you to plan in advance.
It is so easy to leave things to the last minute with our hectic lives, school runs, budgets, and work all getting in the way.
With so many options for kid's party ideas these days, it is easy to leave it to the last minute to book things.
But as a children's entertainer, I have noticed more and more parents getting stressed out about their child's party!
Celebrating your child's birthday should be a fun and special time, one that you want to remember and not one that you want to forget!
So, how do you stop yourself from getting flustered and stressed?
Book in advance!
It really is a simple as that.
Why do you need a whole blog post just to tell you this?
Well, the more I tell parents to book me in advance, the more I find I am still trying to squeeze them in last minute! So by offering you the chance to sit down and read the reasons why entertainers constantly bombard you with reminders, hopefully this will resonate with you and you can relax knowing you have it all under control!
Now, I don't have all the answers, and everyone's lifestyles are different, but wouldn't it be great to have a gentle reminder about when to book your child's party, rather than panicking at the last minute?
I have just the thing, and best of all, it's FREE!
After surveying several parents in my Essex Birthday Club, the outcome of when they ideally would like to start planning their child's party is between 3 and 6 months.
As an entertainer, I agree with them!
Six months is ideal if you want to be super organised, but three months should be plenty of time to book your entertainer first and then your venue.
However, if your child's birthday falls during summer holidays, Christmas time, bank holidays etc, you need to take this into consideration as they will be busy times of year for anything you book.
I have designed the perfect PDF for you to download, print and stick to your fridge as a reminder and so you don't panic about leaving things to the last minute.
It shows you the 3 month scale in which you need to start booking your entertainer and venue.
So if your child's birthday is in December, like mine is, ideally you want to have had an idea of entertainer and venue by September.
This then gives you plenty of time to get out your invites and have everything else fall into place.
Of course, December is festive season, so I would use my common sense and try to plan a little earlier if I can!
By booking in advance, you not only save yourself all the stress and burden that comes with party planning, but you also get the best in the business as good entertainers get booked up, possibly even earlier than three months!
Book your entertainer first, good ones a rare to find available!
Book your venue second as there are plenty around with flexible time slots.
Once you have these two things booked in, then you are already half way to winning, whoop!

As a children's entertainer, I do many garden parties in the summer time but not all of them go to plan. You may be surprised to read this, but sometimes a garden party can be an entertainer's nightmare!
However, we don't want this to stop you from enjoying being in the outdoors so I wanted to show you how you can have a stress free garden party via this blog!
Why have a Garden Party?
I rarely get booked for my show during the summer at private parties, the reason being is no one really wants to have their party indoors! Another reason is that most people are probably on holiday so to book a hall to try and fill is a difficult task for anyone this time of year.
A garden party is the perfect solution, as long as your garden is big enough!
Not only can you have your closest family members and friends around you but it is in the comfort of your own home and a lot cheaper!
What Entertainment Works best in my Garden?
When I get booked for a garden party, there are a few factors to consider:
-Size of garden
-Amount of people you are inviting
-What distractions are in your garden
This last one means is there a slide, swing, trampoline, or garden toys that remain permanent? If so, the children you invite may be distracted by these and it will be hard to get them to join in with your entertainer. If the area can be covered or kept away, then that is preferable.
Space and amount of people is important because you may think your garden is huge, but once you fill it with people and entertainment, it gets smaller!
I did a party a couple of weeks ago in the garden, it was the tiniest space I have ever performed in, as the rest of the space was filled with the family sitting on chairs and watching! However, it wasn't a disaster, it actually worked really well because everyone was involved!
If you don't want to hire an entertainer and you have room for an inflatable, why not add a face painter as a brilliant add on?
They need room for a table and chair usually but after that, away you go!
What Do I Do if it Rains?
With the unpredictable British weather, who knows if your party will involve sunny blue skies, or grey rainy clouds?!
To prepare for any occasion, gazebos are a must.
They cover the children from the sun on hot days and keep us all dry on the rainy days.
Especially as most entertainers have heavy and electrical equipment, we definitely require shelter which is your responsibilty when you book.
Last month, I did an hour of entertaining in a big garden under a gazebo, the kids had their food and then we began face painting. But just as I was finishing the last child, the heavens opened and it rained so heavy, I was lucky to be under a gazebo but it was difficult getting my equipment to safety!
This particular party had a garden shed and very friendly helpers who kept everything dry and I remained among their family and friends in their home for another half hour until the rain stopped!
As you can see here, I am under a lovely small gazebo and the kids are around it so there is plenty of room for all!
Garden parties can be so lovely to have when it is planned properly and I do love to do them!
Something to think about if you are choosing to plan yours in a smaller garden, have the entertainment inside, and the food outside!
I had this at a party in May, where I entertained around 15 girls for an hour and then when I started face painting them, they went outside to have their food!
If you have any other tips and ideas of how to get the best out of your garden party, I would ove to hear them so I can add it to my blog to help others!
Drop me an email, it would be great to hear from you!

Like many other face painters, I was watching Glastonbury festival at the weekend and not only was I loving the music and atmosphere, but I was keeping my beady eye out for the latest face painting trends!
Summer time is one of the busiest times of the year for a face painter so it is important to keep up with popular designs and what's new on the market.
Glitter baby, yeah!
It's all about the glitter this year which I am so happy about because I literally bathe myself in the stuff when I get it from the Face Painting shop!
Having attended a few concerts and events in 2017 so far, I never leave the house without chucking a bucket of glitter over my head!
Watching Glastonbury inspired me and there were some amazing glittery faces dancing about!
I don't just mean a bit of sparkle though.
This year's latest face paint trend is all about the chunky glitter and pixie hair paint!
How Do You Get The Summer Sparkle?
Here I was experimenting with a pot of Pixie paint and I truly love it!
Being a face painter, it is easily accessible for me to do this to myself, but you can book any experienced face painter and they can do this for you.
Alternatively, order from the Face Painting Shop, Essex, a pot of Pixie paint and a brush and away you go!
It is easy to apply and is quite wet so you do get the wet look, but once it is dry, it is so sparkly and you will be the talk of the party!
There are various colours, my favourite being turquoise at the moment and I love to start the paint on my face, around the hairline and dragging it into my hair.
I am loving the chunky glitter on the face trend!
I am currently booked for two Bat Mitzvah's this year and a garden party, all requesting the eye glitter look.
It is hugely popular and a great alternative to the zoo project look.
Or why not combine both?
Don't be afraid to shake things up and go crazy with your design ideas!
With Facebook and Pinterest constantly showing us amazing ideas that we all just love to have, glitter has stepped up a notch and fits in so well with parties and festivals.
Face painting will always be popular with children, but I personally feel some adults feel a stigma towards getting their faces painted!
This is based on when I ask adults at birthday parties if they want theirs done too, and I usually get a snigger and a comment about how they are too old for it!
Hopefully, the glitter trend will make it cool again, and believe me, face painting does not have a maximum age limit!!
Here is an example of how I can team up face painting and chunky glitter!
My petal design is always popular, once I start with one, everyone wants it!
But combined with chunky glitter, I love to drag this into the hair line too.
Of course, you don't have to be too drastic with it either, subtle is just as bold and bright!
Don't be limited to your face!
Face and body glitter does what it says on the bottle!
It's summer so treat your flesh to some sparkle and go crazy with glitter!
Shine in the summer sun and be the talk of the party by booking me to come and glam you and your friends up.
I am available this Summer, depending on dates and I would love to come and show you how exciting this latest trend really is!
Get in touch to have a chat about how I can attend your special occasion or event.

Happy Summer Sparkle!
